3.30 Tempting Fate

So I had Otto ranting with her megaphone at the park when this happened.

Screenshot-106

Screenshot-108

Screenshot-109

Screenshot-110

Whoops!

Screenshot-119

Grim emerged from the void with a magnificent bang.

‘What a beautiful day for a reaping!’ he exclaimed joyfully. ‘Why  I could just – !’Screenshot-115

‘Oh, rats. Not another Slender!’

Screenshot-121

Screenshot-127

‘That was awesome!’ Otto cheered.

Screenshot-133

Grim had another opinion of the situation.

‘Otto, Otto, Otto, have you learned nothing from the jelly bean incident?! You’re worse than your grandparents!’

Screenshot-134

‘Well, don’t just stand there! What do you have to say for yourself!’

Screenshot-136

Screenshot-138

Grim sighed. ‘Look, I give everyone who does this a second chance, and you’re getting off easy because you were saying some pretty nasty things about Death back there!’

Screenshot-142

‘Don’t let me catch you doing this again! Why, your grandfather is going to go into spasms when he hears about this! He’ll be laughing his head off at how a Slender bested death!’

Screenshot-143

Screenshot-144

Otto beamed at her freshly formed flesh.

Screenshot-147

‘Dude, you rock!’ she said. ‘Don’t let anyone tell you you look weird in that cloak!’

Grim grumbled incoherently. ‘As I said, you get one chance to shut your mouth about death. If I catch you doing this again, I’m not going to let you off so easy! Are we clear?’

‘Transparently,’ Otto grinned.

When Grim was gone, the smile didn’t leave her fate. She had an idea.

3.28 To Cure All Ailments

Screenshot-306

Screenshot-301

‘Can you do it?’ Otto asked.

‘That I can,’ Hugh announced. He eyed her carefully. ‘But I want to make sure that you’re sure about this.’

Screenshot-313

Otto sighed. ‘You sound just like my cousin. Look, I’m sure. I’m more than sure. My kids are teenagers now and I haven’t aged a day since they were born. I’ve never been so sure about anything in my life!’

Screenshot-316

‘I’m just sensing that this decision doesn’t sit well with everyone,’ Hugh continued.

Screenshot-320

‘They’ll thank me later,’ said Otto. ‘I’ll take the responsibility, Hugh. You just make the potion.’

Screenshot-324

With that, Hugh sets to work creating a Potent Cure Elixir.

Screenshot-334

And he succeeds.

Screenshot-337

Otto decides that she must first test it out to ensure its success. She wanted nothing more than to be rid of the burden of extended life. With memories of her now-deceased family members flashing before her eyes, she slams the potion at her feet and allows the purple smoke to envelop her.

Screenshot-345

Screenshot-346

Screenshot-349

‘I don’t feel much different,’ Otto remarked. But when she looked in the mirror, she noticed that her wings were gone.

Feeling renewed by its success, she summons her three sons. Their eyes widened with disbelief as they noticed that she was no longer a fairy, but they recovered quickly, particulary Hamilton – who hadn’t yet forgotten their conversation in Azure.

Screenshot-356

‘You’re crazy,’ Ham exclaimed. ‘Look, Mom, if you want to be a stupid Normal Sim – .’

‘I resent that,’ Hadrian said from the sidelines.

‘ – then that’s your problem, but I’m not going to have anything to do with it!’

‘I’ve already made it clear that this is a family choice,’ said Otto.

Screenshot-354

‘A FAMILY choice?!’ Ham shouted. ‘You made this decision all on your own, like it’s only YOUR choice that matters!’

Screenshot-362

‘Ham, you’ll thank me later,’ said Otto. ‘I’ve wanted nothing but the best for my kids and being a fairy isn’t all it’s cracked up to be. Besides, I’ve hardly ever seen you use your powers, anyways! I don’t even see Haji bothering with them!’

‘The powers aren’t the point! It’s the life I want!’

Otto frowned. ‘Alright, Ham.’

Screenshot-369

‘I didn’t want to do it this way but you’re leaving me no choice.’

Screenshot-370

Screenshot-372

Screenshot-373

Ham blinked as the smoke started to clear. ‘What…what did you do?!’

Screenshot-375

‘Stopped you from doing something dumb,’ said Otto.

‘I can’t believe you did that!’ Ham shouted. He immediately stormed out of the basement and slammed the door behind him.

‘…Shouldn’t you go after him?’ Hadrian asked, looking at his mother carefully.

‘He needs to cool off,’ said Otto. ‘Haji, come here.’

Screenshot-378

Haji obediently stepped forwards. ‘What’s that for, Mum?’

‘For turning you into a normal Sim.’

Haji shrugged. He was too young to really know the difference and even smiled as the purple mist floated up.

Screenshot-381

Screenshot-382

When it cleared, he was normal.

Screenshot-384

‘How do you feel?’ Hadrian asked both of them.

‘I guess “normal”,’ replied Otto.

‘Did you really have to cure Ham when he didn’t want to be cured?’

‘He’ll understand later, hopefully when he’s had time to cool off.’

Hadrian frowned skeptically.

Screenshot-388

Otto didn’t notice, though. She pulled her youngest son close and the tense feeling inside sagged with relief. They were normal.

3.27 This is Azure

Screenshot-117

Otto’s bar opens with an in-game week.

Screenshot-129

Screenshot-127

Screenshot-126

Screenshot-125

As it turns out, this is just what Lucky Palms needed. The bar encompasses everything Otto loves.

Screenshot-140

…And everything Hamilton loves. Parties and girls.

Screenshot-156

It also becomes the setting for a heated family discussion.

Screenshot-146

It was early morning after grand opening, and Otto’s hands were shaking so badly that she grabbed the nearest glass to clean to try to keep her nerves in tact. Her boys were here and she had the unfortunate business of announcing her plans to them.

‘So what’s this all about, Mum?’ Hadrian asked.

‘Boys, I’ve come to a decision,’ said Otto, plucking up her courage. It was difficult to remember at a time like this that she was a Rebel and wasn’t supposed to care what anyone – family included – thought. ‘We’re forsaking the Fae.’

Screenshot-158

‘Forsaking the Fae?!’ repeated Hadrian. ‘Can you do that outside of Moonlight Falls?’

‘Well, with some difficulty,’ Otto shrugged. ‘I’m having Hugh study Alchemy so he can mix a Potent Cure Potion that will make us normal Sims.’

Screenshot-148

‘I like how you’re using the terms “we” and “us”,’ said Ham.

‘Because all of us are forsaking the Fae. Myself, Ham, and Haji. We’re going to be Normal Sims.’

Screenshot-154

Hadrian started to rise to his feet. ‘Mum, I know why you’re doing this, and – ,’

Screenshot-162

‘I know, I know, I don’t have to,’ said Otto. ‘This is a big decision, but I want all of us to party hard together until we’re all old and grey.’

‘You really don’t have to do this, Mum,’ Hadrian continued.

‘It’s okay, really. I’ve never really done a lot with my Fairy powers anyways and I’ve hardly ever seen Ham use them.’

‘What about Haji?’

‘He’s young. He won’t know the difference.’

Hadrian pursed his lips. ‘If you’re sure…’

‘Of course I’m sure!’

Screenshot-164

Nobody seemed to notice when Hamilton quietly stood and walked away, casting a final glance towards his mother without a word of protest.

3.25 Too Rich, Too Soon

Screenshot-5

Some years later have seen Otto overcome new hurtles.

Screenshot-8

Screenshot-7

There has been a lot of late night plate licking.

Screenshot-2

A new butler.

Screenshot-23

Screenshot-27

Guests drowning in pools.

Oh, and then there are the kids.

Over the years, Ottoline’s two oldest have grown up. Both of them take after her.

Screenshot-136

Hadrian, the oldest, is swiftly becoming a master of pool and strong drinks. He’s a manager at heart, organized, and focused in whatever he does. That’s something he doesn’t share with Otto.

Screenshot-124

Ham prefers dancing and loud music. He’s a Party Animal, and a good one at that, though his parentage remains a mystery.

Screenshot-143

Then there’s the newest addition to the family, Haji Slender, who clearly has priorities.

Screenshot-32

And Otto?

Screenshot-39

Is Otto.

Screenshot-44

Lounging on the back porch, Otto was doing something she didn’t often do, especially when tanning. She was thinking about the circumstances regarding her life, especially the part about being extraordinarily wealthy. While her brother and cousins had long since gone their separate ways – getting married, having kids, changing jobs – Otto found that even as a single parent with three rambunctious boys, she still had enough money leftover to be set for life.

She remembered growing up in Moonlight Falls, remembering how the rain and snow kept her indoors for hours at a time. Now she was enjoying a perpetual summer and didn’t know what to do with it.

Screenshot-52

‘Food’s on, ma’am,’ Hugh announced.

‘Good, I’m starving,’ Otto muttered incomprehensibly.

Screenshot-58

‘I hope you like your hamburgers really well done,’ said Hugh.

Screenshot-81

‘I’ve been thinking,’ said Otto.

‘You…think?’ Hugh asked.

Screenshot-88

Otto scoffed and stuffed a burger into her mouth. ‘Believe it or not, underneath my awesome hair, I have a brain.’

‘There’s no denying that,’ said Hugh. ‘Especially since if you didn’t have a brain, you wouldn’t have been able to respond to your basic instinctual desire to eat.’

‘…Huh?’

‘Never mind. You were saying something about thinking?’

‘Something’s bothering me.’

‘That’s unfortunate. What’s the problem?’

Screenshot-101

‘I’m too rich.’

Screenshot-107

‘…I’m…sorry you’re experiencing such hardship?’

Screenshot-111

‘I mean, I’m so rich I technically don’t even have to work. I have to do something with all this money or I’m just going to be sitting on my butt all day doing nothing.’

‘Which you would do even if you weren’t rich.’

‘Yeah, maybe. But I feel like I need to do something.’

‘You like gambling. Why not go gambling?’

‘Yeah, but it’s not exciting if you aren’t worried about loosing your money.’

‘Well, why not invest it somewhere?’

‘And get even more rich?’

‘Sure,’ Hugh paused. ‘No, wait, I have an even better idea. Why don’t you open a bar or something?’

‘A bar?’

‘You love mixing drinks and you’re good at it. Plus, no one knows how to party like you. Why not have a bar that the boys can inherit someday?’

Otto considered this. She did love bars and there were hardly any good places in town, aside from the Casino – which didn’t have a bar – and one very lame karaoke place situated downtown. The more she considered Hugh’s suggestion, the more she enjoyed the thought of having her own personal bar to moonlight at, earn money, and party until the early hours of the morning.

Screenshot-116

Fortunately, in Lucky Palms, owning a bar was as simple as a single phone call.

3.20 University Part IV

Screenshot-554

The day of final exams arrives quicker than Otto is entirely comfortable with.

Screenshot-534

Fortunately she’s armed with a vast array of cheat sheets.

Screenshot-557

…And she gets away with it.

Otto finishes her final term on the Dean’s List, but she certainly didn’t get there honestly. She doesn’t care.

Screenshot-548

Screenshot-579

The last day of term finds Otto using her fairy powers to repair some of the objects has room mates have broken over the last two weeks. She won’t be coming back to University for another term – she has more than enough credits to earn her Fine Arts degree at the top of her class.

Screenshot-544

So Otto makes sure to torment her room mates as much as possible before she takes off.

Screenshot-604

Screenshot-606

They manage to get back her at somewhat.

Screenshot-609

Screenshot-610

Only she just retaliates.

Screenshot-593

There’s a lot of flirting going around.

Screenshot-621

And, of course, the obligatory end-of-term party.

Screenshot-616

Screenshot-622

Otto gets a lot of use out of her guitar. I think she’s going to do well in the Music career.

Screenshot-582

When she gets her results, she gets confirmation that she’s earned her degree.

Screenshot-633

And it’s back off to Lucky Palms! Her room mates are relieved to see her go.

Screenshot-643

Rupee is relieved to see her back.

Screenshot-646

Finally, the same night she comes home, Otto goes off to the Theatre to join the Music career.

She will get fame and fortune if she has to horribly disfigure every Sim’s face to get there!

3.19 University Part III

Screenshot-225

Otto isn’t a model student and she’s the first to admit that, so when her grades start to fall, she realizes that she’s going to need a quick, easy solution. Now, normally I would think that this means last-minute cramming for her final exams.

…And then she gets a series of wishes that I don’t really want to have to fulfill.

Screenshot-232

At the very edge of town lies a house where her professor lives.

Screenshot-234

Otto decides to pay her a visit regarding her grades.

Screenshot-236

Screenshot-238

Then she gets her first wish regarding this situation…I don’t really want to do it, but who am I to tell Otto what not to do?

Oh, gosh, I don’t think I can look…

Screenshot-241

Screenshot-242

Screenshot-244

Screenshot-246

That is DEFINITELY not part of the school curriculum.

Wait, it gets better!

Screenshot-250

Screenshot-518

It’s only a little bit creepy that the professor’s dog watches them do the deed.

Screenshot-528

…Oh, well…At least Otto doesn’t seem to be too bothered by it.

3.18 University Part II

Screenshot-128

What better way to kick off a term than a party?

Screenshot-131

Fortunately Otto’s ample guitar skills are enough to keep her grades up – or else I don’t know what would happen to her!

Screenshot-134

Screenshot-137

Some of the dares she undertakes also tend to be…a bit hazardous to her health. I don’t think she’ll be eating any raw Cinnamon anytime soon.

Screenshot-140

Otto also makes sure to put her room mates in their place, especially the ones she doesn’t like all that much.

Screenshot-145

It’s a huge relief to actually win a fight.

Screenshot-147

Screenshot-155

Of course…there are other ways to keep her room mates in their place.

I don’t think that’s part of the curriculum.

Screenshot-160

Screenshot-163

Otto has her first romances at university, most of them barely lasting a whole afternoon.

Mostly, university is all about having fun.

Screenshot-173

Screenshot-180

Screenshot-184

Screenshot-186

Screenshot-188

Screenshot-193

Screenshot-196

Screenshot-205

Screenshot-208

And when the night winds down, Otto proves to be a true Rebel.

Screenshot-211

Though her eating habits leave something to be desired.

Screenshot-216

Otto starts to believe that University is all about loving life. Who needs to study? She’ll worry about exams later.

…But who is she writing to?

3.17 University Part I

Screenshot-84

Screenshot-85

University turns out to be quite a bit of fun…for me.

Otto moves into a Sorority house – in theory this sounds like a lot of fun.

Screenshot-83

She almost immediately comes into conflict with one of her more uptight room mates who, as it turns out, has the “Mean-Spirited” trait.

Screenshot-81

Fortunately Otto knows how to deal with Mean-Spirited Sims. \ Screenshot-96

Screenshot-99

Other Sims (other Rebels), however, seem to get a kick out of Otto. Fairy rebels are the best!

Screenshot-102

The dumpster diving helps.

Screenshot-106

Otto is going for a Fine Arts degree to suit her Virtuoso nature, but she has a pretty high skill level in drawing already, which makes it a lot easier. I don’t see her studying a lot, but she has have a preoccupation with her sketch book.

Screenshot-107

…No idea what she’s drawing, though.

Screenshot-108

With each Sim that goes to University, they have a priority. Some come to study. Some come to party. Some come to gain influence in a social group.

But Otto?

Screenshot-121

…She came for the dares.

3.16 Post Grad

Screenshot-18

No sooner has Otto aged up when the Slenders are robbed.

Don’t worry, though. The only thing she managed to get was a toilet…

Screenshot-21

The police were kind of useless, though.

Screenshot-23

Screenshot-24

…And Jessamine managed to get abducted by aliens simultaneously.

Screenshot-27

All in all, it was a rough night.

Screenshot-32

Things were looking up in the morning when I decided that since I had fewer Sims to deal with, we could have some pets running around, and partially as a graduation present for Otto.

Hugh decided to adopt a kitten named Macho.

Screenshot-33

Macho definitely has his priorities.

Screenshot-42

And for Otto, she gets a dog named Rupee.

Screenshot-62

They’re getting along swimmingly.

Screenshot-44

Screenshot-47

Otto managed to get her grades up enough to graduate as Valedictorian and receive the award for “Most Likely to Burn Down Their House”. Jessamine was pleased with this news, but unfortunately it’s time for the spare to move on with her life. I’ve decided to set her free of the legacy to do unto the world however she sees fit.

Screenshot-49

Otto doesn’t seem to notice.

Screenshot-52

The next step is to take the aptitude test (again).

Otto: Hm…maybe the tree has all the answers.

No, I don’t think it does.

Screenshot-64

After confirming she qualifies for a Fine Arts scholarship, it’s a quick phone call, and then off to University!

Screenshot-69

The deer comes to say goodbye.

Screenshot-72

Seriously, it just stands there and watches her leave on the prison truck transportation.

Screenshot-73

Screenshot-77

Personally I think Hugh’s just relieved that he gets the house to himself.

3.15 The Next Chapter

Screenshot-523

Things are moving quickly. Not long after their arrival in Lucky Palms, Otto takes the next step: becoming a Young Adult.

Screenshot-524

She says goodbye to her adolescence in style.

Screenshot-529

Screenshot-531

Screenshot-533

Screenshot-537

Screenshot-543

GAWD. What happened to my little punk?! My first priority is to send Otto to the mirror for a makeover.

Screenshot-551

Much better.
