Guess who’s pregnant again?

The sink is so happy it’s crying.

The sink is not nearly as happy as Faust. He gets a whole bunch of new wishes relating to their child. However, once more Monet fails to produce any wishes relating to her pregnancy, but that could mean any number of things about what she really hopes to achieve with her family. I’ll think about this some more and get back to you all.

Monet spends the majority of this pregnancy at home, playing with the dollhouse. I don’t think Faust thought it was good for her to be beating up criminals while she was expecting. In fact, I’m so distracted getting Faust to chase down gems to add to the family funds (still saving up for that family home!), I completely forget that Monet is even going to have a child. So when I get a notice that she’s in labour, I immediately rush back to the household and start panicking as much as any normal Sim does! (I haven’t even bought a crib for this child.)

I always move my Sims into the bedroom when they’re having home births. Can’t have them giving birth in the hall now, can we?

It’s another boy! Greetings to Eldridge Slender.

However, not all is peachy keen in the Slender household. While Cadmus was quiet and serene when he was born, Eldridge comes out screaming his little head off.

Monet’s expression says it all.

Oh, well. At least he has her complextion.

1.8 Birthstones

When Faust finally gets home, it’s late at night and Monet is still awake – no doubt because she’s just given birth. Cadmus is surprisingly well-tempered for an infant. He hasn’t cried once. The first thing Faust goes to do is to say hello to his new child.

The second thing he does is show Monet what he got their child.

It’s a gem he found and cut himself. From here on out, Faust promises that with each child they have, he’ll present them with a “birth stone”.

Cadmus’s birthstone is a ruby. Birthstones are a centuries-old tradition. In 1870, Tiffany and Co. published a series of poems relating to the birthstones. These poems have to say about the ruby:

The gleaming Ruby should adorn,

All those who in July are born,

For thus they’ll be exempt and free,

From lover’s doubts and anxiety.

With its deep red colour, rubies are commonly associated with passionate love and friendship, especially when given as a gift. Could Cadmus a future flirt, perhaps?

After a night spent together, Faust and Monet return to their routine. Monet has gotten a number of promotions recently, the most recent one permitting her to wear the fabled red coat. I’m tempted to rename her “Carmen”. Maybe I’ll save that name for the firstborn daughter.

Faust, meanwhile, it out catching fireflies and the likes. He’s been murmuring something about “genies” lately, but for the life of me I can’t figure out exactly what he means. At least he’s happy, though, which is a lot more than I can say for our Monet right now.

1.7 First

Like I was saying, Monet is in labour. She probably thinks that this is the worst thing that’s ever happened to her.

And then…

Welcome to the family, Cadmus Slender.

Of course, you’d think the father would be here for the birth of his first child, but he isn’t. He’s at the gym.
